Severe weather threat UPDATE

There is a considerable amount of cloud cover over the area. As a result, the threat for midday and afternoon severe weather has diminished with less instability. We had some thunderstorms fire up on the eastern edge of the cloud shied, just north and east of the metro area, and these have remained below severe limits. The main threat for severe weather this afternoon will be across central KS and OK. In fact, the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued two tornado watches for these areas.

We’ll certainly have to keep an eye on things tonight, but the threat for severe weather around the Kansas City area does not move in until that time. We'll also have to keep an eye on the threat for heavy rain.
